A message from our founder
Hi, my name is Jamie Henry and I started Helping Hands FirstAid in 2015 when I was just 15 years old. Below is the story that inspired me to create this nonprofit.
In summer of 2015, while walking through the city of Denver, I noticed a man with scrapes up and down his arms, his legs bleeding from road rash. He looked dazed and in great pain, hands pushing on his head, trying to make the headache go away. As I looked around, I noticed that everyone walked by this man like he was invisible. I went back to my car and grabbed a first aid kit. Returning to him, I asked if he needed help and gave him the kit. He was so grateful to have some medical items to clean and bandage his wounds. As we talked I found out that he had been hit by a car and was trying to get to a clinic to find help. To many of us, first aid supplies like bandaids are something we take for granted. They are items that we might not always need, but are grateful to have when the time arises. Unfortunately, many homeless and low income people cannot afford even the most basic medical supplies.
My mission is to provide first aid supplies to those who need it most. Throughout the years, Helping Hands FirstAid has partnered with various nonprofit to provide first aid supplies to people experiencing homelessness, low-income families, refugees, elderly people, and survivors of domestic abuse.
Thank you so much for the first aid kits you dropped off! They are AWESOME and will be very popular with our Hunger Relief Partners and neighbors.
